sanctuary right in the heart of Johannesburg.
With close attention to detail and exceptional service, Fairlawns creates an intimate atmosphere where
some of the globe’s most vibrant personalities converge. The chic, upscale suites are individually
decorated in varying themes ranging from Eastern influence to French provincial, each featuring every

Located in Johannesburg - South Africa’s largest city and gateway to the rest of Africa - Fairlawns is
situated just 6 km from central Sandton, and 20 km from the Johannesburg city centre to offer the
upmarket traveller a delicate mix of luxury and convenience. Established in 1997, Fairlawns, or “FBH”
as it’s come to be affectionately known by Managing Director, Michael Kewley, is a property proud
in heritage and character. Previously a luxury private residence, it is only fitting that the property has
transformed “herself” into the stylish hotel, with an air of eclectic sophistication, that Fairlawns is today.
DAYS 2-5: ROVOS RAIL, JOURNEY FROM PRETORIA TO VICTORIA FALLS
3 nights on Rovos Rail in a deluxe suite on a full board basis.
This three-night adventure begins with the train’s departure from Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. It then
winds its way north through Warmbaths, so named for its mineral waters, and Nylstroom, christened
by the Voortrekkers as the source of the Nile River as the town’s river happened to be north flowing.
The train then passes the edge of the escarpment and crosses the Tropic of Capricorn en route to the
border with Zimbabwe.
After formalities at Beitbridge the next morning, the train travels on the BBR line to Bulawayo, second
city of Zimbabwe, capital of Matabeleland and industrial capital of the country. The following day sees
the train travelling along one of the world’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114 kilometres
– before traversing Hwange National Park, a rich and diverse wildlife sanctuary where animals can be
spotted from the train and a game drive excursion is enjoyed.
After a service stop at Thompsons Junction, the sojourn ends at the incomparable Victoria Falls on the
mighty Zambezi River. The surrounding areas offer travellers many recreational opportunities including
cruises, white-water rafting as well as superb game viewing and photo safaris.
DAY 5–7: VICTORIA FALLS SAFARI CLUB, VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE
2 nights at Victoria Falls Safari Club in a Club Room on a bed & breakfast basis.
Victoria Falls Safari Club is an exclusive 20-room boutique hotel overlooking the Zambezi National
Park, with a central guest area featuring a modern fine dining restaurant, lounge, bar and viewing deck.
Facilities include a two-tiered swimming pool, featuring a 15m lap pool, sundeck and gazebo and a
fitness room.
Situated within the magnificent grounds of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge resort, this luxury club is a
place where African history and the enchanting power of nature blend with exotic modern comforts
and brings an atmosphere of exclusive African distinctiveness.
The 16 Club rooms and 4 Club suites offer luxurious accommodation with uninterrupted views of
unspoilt bushveld and spectacular African sunsets. Safari Club residents have access to all existing
services and facilities on the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge resort, but no other resort residents have access
to the Club wing, thus ensuring total exclusivity.
DAY 7-10: SELINDA CAMP, SELINDA RESERVE, BOTSWANA
3 nights at Selinda Camp in a luxury suite on a full board basis.
Set in one of the most pristine wilderness areas left on our planet, Selinda Camp rests on the banks of
the Selinda Spillway, as it enters the Linyanti River. The private 130,000 hectare Selinda Reserve boasts
elephants by the thousands, regular sightings of the Selinda pack of African wild dogs as well as the
famous Selinda Lion Pride recently feature in the National Geographic film “Birth of a Pride” by Dereck
and Beverly Joubert. The area has a sense of remoteness, a true spirit of Africa, and is a great example
of Botswana bush embodying a variety of species and rare animals.
The new Selinda Camp represents the meeting place of three cultures; European, Mokololo and Bayei
and is themed to resemble that of the thatched village of Sangwali, one that used to house 3,000
warriors and sufficient enough to loan David Livingstone 200 men during his travels.
Spears, shields and an African version of Robinson Crusoe is the enduring theme through the camp,
and its architectural design elements center around Water, Air, Earth and Fire, all of which ground the
design.
Selinda Camp’s design pays homage first and foremost to Water, with splashes of blue and crystalclear swimming pools offering views over the equally immaculate Selinda Spillway to ease your arrival,
usually by boat.
The billowing silks, which adorn the ceilings of the lounge area, are a tribute to Air and the afternoon
breezes that ripple the endless sea of nearby grasses.
Earth is represented in the cornucopia of home-grown meals lovingly prepared in our kitchens, fresh
from the earth, and the bright flames of our evening Fire complete the ethos of being in harmony with
nature’s natural elements.
The camp has three expansive guest suites, each covered under thatch and with large en-suite
bathrooms, large private veranda and private swimming pool. There is in some cultures a fifth element,
‘metal’, which is also incorporated into the design. Every space enhances what Livingstone would
have had, what he would have travelled with and found. But beyond that, we go back to the Robinson
Crusoe feel, including textures of rope, rooms under thatch, hammocks, lots of space, nautical
elements and salvaged wood.
In addition to the three main suites, the Selinda Suite (like its fellow Zarafa Dhow Suite and the Duba
Plains Suite), consists of a two-bedroom tented villa. The Selinda Suite operates exclusively, as guests
enjoy their own private vehicle, safari guide, chef, manager/butler and entrance to their residence.
The safari drives, walks, boating, tracking, birding and other bespoke viewing activities are designed
to place you in front of the best wildlife the area has to offer for a unique one on one life changing
experience, from leopards to elephants and hippos and aim to tick off as many as the 200 or more bird
species in the area.
